Oak, Bog

Also known as: Marsh Oak, Moor Oak

Botanical Name: Quercus robur

Origin: Europe

Description: Bog Oak veneer is produced from Oaks which grew and died many centuries and even several thousand years ago. The fallen trees became buried in peat bogs and gravel beds, the resulting wet and acid environment over such a length of time changing the colour of the wood to black and very dark brown. This combination of black, shading from the edge to rich brown towards the center of the log, makes a striking and attractive veneer for special furniture and interiors.
