Purpleheart

Also known as: Amaranth, Violetwood

Botanical Name: Peltogyne paniculata, P. porphyrocardia, P. pubescens

Description: This remarkably coloured timber is usually quarter cut to produce veneer with a straight, often interlocked grain that in some logs may display a degree of mottle figure. When first cut, the colour is less intense but after a short period it strengthens to a deep purple violet. Mainly used for small cabinet work or as a detail veneer.
